About Zach

Zachary Shotland was born in the Center Community Hospital in State College, PA. Born and raised in State College, I had a normal child-hood. I enjoyed movies, sports (watching and playing), hanging out with friends, and other things kids do. I graduated from The State College Area High School in 1996 and then attended The Pennsylvania State University. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Letters, Arts, and Sciences (with a Comparative Literature Minor) in 2000. Being sick of living in "Happy Valley" my entire life, I decided to move to south Florida after graduation.

I joined my 4 grandparents (2 unfortunetly have since passed), and my aunt and uncle in South Florida. This helped made my move a lot easier then moving to a new place entirely with-out any friends. I don't have a big family, but I do have family in California, upstate New York, Washington D.C., and New England. I only have one first cousin, and a few second cousins. My mom is remarried and lives in Cambridge, MA. She now works at the University of Connecticut. My dad is retired from Penn State and still lives in State College. My brother (who also graduated from Penn State) is now a lawyer living in Philadelphia, PA.

Since moving down to South Florida I have not missed the cold winters at all. I prefer the hot summers to the cold winters. The hurricanes aren't pleasureable to deal with, but it comes with the territory of living down here. I've found it somewhat hard to make friends (I don't think people are as friendly as they are up north and out west). I do have a few good friends I do stuff with though. I enjoy going to movies, watching sports (baseball, basketball, and football are my favorites), watching TV, playing around on the web (after all it is what I do), playing video games (mostly sports games), going to concerts (when I can go to them), and I like to play basketball when I get a chance. I've started to play tennis too, but really need to find a partner to get better.
